The BATTLE of the Primers!! High-End v/s Drugstore

Hello everyone!

I decided to start doing this new "series" to review more expensive products and compare them to products that are VERY similar but only a fraction of the cost. Many times we end up spending more than we expect on a makeup product, and we don't realize that we could we getting something very similar from the drugstore.

So for today's battle, I picked two very popular primers: the Photo Finish Primer by Smashbox and the Studio Perfect Photo Loving Primer by NYX.

So first things first. They look ridiculously similar. They both have the black and white scheme going on in their packagings. There is quite a big difference in price though, because the NYX Primer is $19.95 for 30 ml (link here) and the Smashbox one is $52 for the same 30 ml (link here).

They both claim to deliver a silky finish, both say they create a perfect canvas, reducing the appearance of fine lines and pores, and  are meant to extend the duration of your makeup.

The consistency of Smashbox's primer is gel-like, which makes it easy to apply and even out. It might make you (certainly me) think that because it's a gel, it might dry out your skin, especially if it's not oily, but honestly that wasn't the case. It keeps your makeup perfectly in place, blurring some lines you might have and working perfectly in the hotter Summer days.

The NYX primer feels exactly the same, which is to be expected because, well, they LOOK the same, but more importantly, they have the same ingredients. So you would also expect it to have the same performance. But does it? Yes! It is just as easy to apply, it keeps your makeup in place just like the other one, and it doesn't dry you out or make you shiny through the day.

They are also both Cruelty Free, which is a massive plus for both.

So who's the winner of the battle?
They are both VERY good. They do what they promise to do, they make your makeup go on very smoothly and stay on a very decent amount of time, but obviously if they both do the same, you would wanna spend less money (unless you don't care about splurging because you just became a mogul lol) so the winner is clearly NYX Studio Perfect Photo Loving Primer.

Also, you can get both brands in different colours, depending on your skin concerns. Lavender is good for correcting yellow-ish tones, and green is good for redness.

If you liked this post series, definitely stay tuned because I'll be making more of them featuring different beauty products :)

Hope you enjoyed it, thanks for reading me! xo
